Statement: Relating to the natural world through art is at the center of my being. The differences that light and atmosphere create in the world around us are endlessly tantalizing. Sometimes it is in small abstract patterns and textures, and at other times it is the vistas that are compelling. Images become queries that ask for my response and interpretation.
Finding unsuspected beauty on the roadside or in each stage of plant life is a constant reminder that nature is always full of surprises. Seeing the ways that shadows form an underpinning for color by building composition and creating patterns can often be the first inspiration. The cycle of our New England seasons offers constant inspiration.
Printing processes help me move between realism and abstraction. Simplifying images and using multiple transfer processes allow the “making” to create openings in each step along the way.
